John brings more than twenty years of direct experience across the electric utility, grid technology manufacturing, and management consulting sectors, supporting clients and employers throughout Canada and the United States. He currently holds a senior product management role within the grid technology industry, leading product strategy for solutions deployed by electric utilities.

His professional trajectory spans field engineering, cross-functional leadership, management consulting, and product management, providing an unusually integrated perspective on the operational, commercial, and strategic dimensions of electric utility grid technology. Areas of recognised expertise include distribution automation, real-time grid operations, distributed energy resource integration, ADMS and DERMS platforms, reliability performance, and the translation of utility operational requirements into deployable technology solutions.

John is a registered Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and completed an Executive Master of Business Administration concentrated on Innovation Leadership. He maintains a US E-1 Treaty Trader visa, which facilitates cross-border consulting and advisory engagements with United States clients.

He is selectively available for advisory and consulting engagements that align with his domain experience, particularly those bridging grid operations, product strategy, and emerging grid technology.

John has held senior product management roles across two North American grid technology companies serving the global electric utility market. The product portfolio responsibilities have encompassed grid reliability solutions and distribution automation products, with customer engagement spanning investor-owned utilities, public power entities, electric cooperatives, and international utility operators.

The customer base served by these product roles operates the medium-voltage distribution and grid edge layers of the electric system, where reliability performance, distributed energy resource integration, and operational visibility are the dominant strategic priorities. The product portfolios have addressed feeder automation, protection and control, grid reliability analytics, and operational technology platforms supporting real-time grid management.

The product management work is informed directly by twenty years of preceding field engineering and consulting experience, providing an operational perspective on customer requirements that is uncommon among product managers in the sector.
